Canker sore: Canker sores (aphthous ulcers) will heal on their own in 5-7 days. In the meantime, stay away from anything that may irritate it, such as acidic foods. If it a problem at meals, apply Orabase ointment (over the counter from your pharmacy) on the ulcer before meals.
