Changing hormones: Halfway thru the menstrual cycle, a woman ovulates & the ovaries start producing progesterone. Soon after progesterone production stops, the menstrual period starts. Women approaching menopause (change of life) may not ovulate regularly, so they may have irregular periods. Unless your periods are very heavy, painful or long lasting, you shouldn't be worried.
