Meds for itchy rash: Regular antihistamine comes first for itchy rash. Loratadine is the weakest, barely effective. Zyrtec and Allegra are stronger and so are chlortrimeton and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) . You can take zyrtec 10 mg or allegra 180 mg more than once a day if itching returns. You can take up to 50 mg Benadryl (diphenhydramine) four times a day, but don't drive. Famotidine is of limited use; use 20 mg twice a day . Cortisone 10 may be OK.
