Brown = old blood: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections & hormonal changes can cause spotting. Brown simply indicates old blood and is normal. Brown: Its likely old bloody discharge, however it could also be infection or blood from a new pregnancy. Breastfeeding only acts like birth control for a month or so. Check a pregnancy test and if the brown discharge has an odor or gets worse see your health care provider
