Knee instability: It is very common for patients with chondromalacia patella to develop symptoms of the knee giving out. When the body senses pain in the kneecap joint, there is a reflexive inhibition of of the quadriceps muscle (the muscle shuts down momentarily) and the knee feels that it collapses or gives way.
