Fecundity: Even in the healthiest of individuals, under the optimal condition(s); there is no 100% pregnancy rate (e.g. getting pregnant every time you have sex). Indeed the average fecundity rate can vary from 15 to 30%. Many of these factors are not well understood. However, the high atrition rate (e.g. the amount of sperm that eventually don't make it to the egg) contributes to some of this.
