Blood thinner issues: In general, after lysis we continue anticoagulation with Coumadin (warfarin) for at least a few months. While you on it, your main concern is bleeding and, especially, head trauma. When you are off blood thinners - a lot depends on pictures and causes -check with the specialist, who performed the procedure.

Depends on where.: Thrombolysis for a deep vein clot requires at least 3 months anticoagulation. If an artery was clotted, anti-platelet drugs should be given (aspirin, plavix, pletal, (cilostazol) effient, or various combinations). If a dialysis access was lysed, no additional medications are mandatory. Not smoking is the most effective thing a patient can do to prevent further clots from forming.
