Old blood: Dark brown almost black spotting is normal with progestin predominant bleeding like you get with the Mirena (levonorgestrel). This is very common and is usually thought of as old blood. Unless you start doing this more often or your pattern of bleeding increases, it isn't anything to worry about. Hope this helps.
