I had a lot of blood in my urine, so i went to er. no stones, no infection. dr said maybe a polyp burst. what could this be, could i have passed stone?

Probably not: renal colic is very painful, so I vote for hemorrhagic cystitis

Some other common: causes other than stone or infection could be polycystic kidney disease, vigorous exercise, bladder or kidney cancer, trauma. See a urologist for an evaluation. May need cystoscopy.
