A member asked:

I was diagnosed with hernia in er last night. i am still in severe pain and am vomiting. is this normal for a hernia? should i go back to the dr?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: To diagnose a hernia in the ER the hernia must have not been reduced or could eventually be reduced by the ER physician. If left incarcerated it results in small bowel obstruction and eventually changes leading to performation. Severe pair is a symptom of this process and may mean that if reduced, it has returned and is potentially strangulating which causes pain and vomiting. Must see surgeon.
