A member asked:

A number of my friends engage in detoxification periodically. is this necessary?

"junk" science: There is little or no evidence that human beings require any such thing. Our lungs, skin, kidneys, liver and gastrointestinal systems remove toxins quite effectively and excrete them from the body. In addition, I haven't seen a SINGLE randomized controlled trial looking at the effects of these "detox" regimens on human health. Some of them can be quite harmful, even life-threatening.
