Difficult Question: I'm not sure this has ever been looked into.... But I do know that isn't necessarily the intended use of coconut oil. I wouldn't advise it... but I really don't have a solid reason to feel that way other than it just doesn't seem like a good idea. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't recommend: it. What are you using it for? I definitely does not prevent pregnancy or STD's.

Safe: it is as safe as any other lubricant. However, it will not provide any protection against disease or pregnancy. Be smart about having unprotected sex!
