CPK or CK: CPK also known as creatinine kinase. Creatinine is converted to phosphocreatinine by creatinine kinase. Ck is measured to determine if muscle is breaking down. An 8 yp with an increased ck is concerning for muscular dystrophies, myositis (inflammatory muscle disease) and vasculitis. He needs a thorough evaluation and potentially a muscle biopsy for diagnosis.
