I've been on aviane for over a year and take it at the exact same time every day, but i started spotting a week before my period. what could it be? and does it affect the pill's effectiveness?

No: The longer you are on oral contracetives the more likely it is to experience some abnormal bleeding. As long as you have not missed pills, taken antibiotics, or had vomiting the pill should be effective.
