Skills needed: Anxiety is a natural response to perceived threat. Unfortunately, shy people get an anxious response when the only "threat" is their perception that others might judge them or not value them socially. People who learn relaxation skills and positive self talk, then face the situation they want to avoid do best. Getting though it-- even with tears-- builds mastery. You can do it!

Soon?: There may not be enuf time for CBT to do it 's work, but consider it for any future events! If your Dr agrees, this is the type of event Zanax was intended for (a single hit!) Also, the bottom line is that you're already okay w/ the 1 in 80 who matters - others may agree! Some folk really like shy people - and, you can only be you - there's no choice, everyone else is already taken.
