Depends: The hd machines have removable tubes and filters that are only used once. After hemodialysis the tubes and filters that are in contact with blood are thrown out and exchanged for new ones.

Control oral liquids: The more the liquid intake is, the more the need to remove fluids during hemodialysis, the more chances are for cramping, fatigue, and low blood pressure. Very strict salt intake makes it easy to drink within 50 oz per day. No cured meat, pickles, cheese, salted nuts will make life easy. Under 2000 milligrams of sodium per day is the way to go. Will also save need for blood pressure meds.

Sometimes when blood pressure goes low patients get unawareness and may have nausea. Some patients feel cold. Ingeneral the proceedure is well tolerated and patients are watching tv when awake.
