It depends: it depends upon your sensitivity to fossil fuel. if you are highly sensitive, one breath may do and if you are less sensitive it may take a few to several minutes. do other odors like gasoline, perfumes, cleaning products, paint etc bother you? if a lot of odors bother you it is part of chemical sensitivity
