About equal: They do work although there is some question of for how long. Also the approved indications are quite narrow such as only for grass or dust mites but most people have multiple allergies.

Shots > drops: Most studies showed shots over drops. Only limited number of allergens (even if all are available) can be given by drops (taken daily). The dropout rate for drops is high since itchy mouth and throat occur with each dose at least in the first few months. The major benefits for drops are that they are taken at home after the 1st dose at allergist's office & no anaphylaxis reported vs shots.
