Does episodic tummy sleeping raise overall sids risk? or is the risk the same with each new sleeping session?

Yes: obviously sleeping on tummy sometimes versus not sleeping on tummy at all raises the overall risk of SIDS

Why chance it: The sids rate in the US has declined about 40% in the 20 plus years since the "back to sleep" campaign started.Given our lack of understanding of the issue, I consider any sleep period during their vulnerable months to be a potential risk.
