A member asked:

Could you tell me if my boyfriend has sickle cell trait does that mean our children could get the disorder?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No, if you don't...: If your boyfriend has trait (one beta-hemoglobin gene normal and one with the sickle mutation), and you do not have trait, than your child has a 50% chance of either having trait or having two normal copies of the beta-hemoglobin gene.
