Not effective: laser was used treat macular degeneration the 1980's , 90's, and early 2000's but is no longer considered an effective treatment. Currently, injectable medications (Avastin, Lucentis, (ranibizumab) Eylea) are the best treatment for wet macular degeneration. The only proven "treatment" for dry macular degeneration is vitamin supplementation (AREDS 2 formula).
