Damage: At a molecular level, oxidants interact with protein and lipids to change there shape and ability to function normally. The body has "anti-oxidant" systems to protect us from this, but they can be overwhelmed in certain situations. The concept may be a bit overblown commercially in order to promote anti-oxidant supplements, but there is truth in the harmful effects of oxidants.
