Infection of hair: Follicles. Hair follicles can get infected, in moist areas, like groin, axilla, without an external source of infection. If persistent or recurrent you should get checked out to rule out pre-disposing conditions like diabetes, and to ascertain if antibiotic treatment is warranted.
