How long?: You count from the first day of one period to the first day of the next: that is your cycle length. 28 days is considered "normal" but it can be anywhere from 26-33 days. Ovulation usually happens about 14 days BEFORE the expected period, but obviously that's a guess, not a rule. I hope this helps.
