Cofactors: Magnesium has 2 positive charges and must be bound to something that has 2 negative charges when made. Magnesium can be bound to citrate, protein, sulfate and oxide. Each different formulation has differences in tolerability---citrate increases stooling and is used for constipation. Protein, oxide may allow better absorption and less diarrhea.
