Sleeve gastrectomy : The general consensus at the national meetings I attend is that sleeve gastrectomy results seem to be much better than lap band results. In addition, lap band patients often have complications from their band (prolapse, erosion, leakage, dilated pouch, esophageal dysmotility). The lap band now only accounts for only 8% of the operations done (sleeve 47%, bypass 42%). We rarely do bands now.
