12 yr is a long time: Sometimes it helps to know where this problem is located. There is a condition called meralgia paresthetica that affects the upper outer thigh. Is this the area? Other areas may be affected by problems in different locations. It may also help to know which sport made it worse. Hockey or football? Injuries to the back may cause these symptoms.
