Bleeding: When you cut your finger in the kitchen the bleeding is bright red, then dark red, then brown in the form of a scab. This occurs as the blood oxidizes. The transit time through your vagina was long enough so that the blood oxidized. Therefore the brown discharge is normal.

Nothing specific : Return to regular cycles can be variable after a D&C. Brown discharge after the end of the cycle usually signifies some release of some dried old blood probably left in the vaginal canal. As long as there's no fever or fowl odor to the discharge, it is pretty common. Was the D&C for a pregnancy loss? Or a gynecology reason? Either way, be sure to track your periods with a calender.
