Not desirable: Most physicians would prefer not to have a patient have to take these two medications daily and would worry about laxative abuse. They would rather treat the problem with dietary measures,bowel conditioners, stool softeners and more gentle stimulants like senokot (senna) if at all possible. Glycerin rectal suppository and/or gentle fleets enema may help when you have an urge but can't expell the stool.
