Dose needed varies: Birth control pills are often used to stop prolonged menstrual bleeding. Generally, this is done by taking 1 pill 4 times/day until the bleeding stops, then to take 1 pills 3 times/day, then 1 pill twice a day, and then 1 pill/day until the pack is gone. How many days it takes to stop the bleeding varies from one woman to the next, but the bleeding often stops after the first day.
