Possibly but: there are many other OTC antihistamines which would not make you tired. If you do need an AH to control the swelling, try some of these newer AHs.

Sounds like allergy: It sounds like you have an allergy to amoxicillin. After 3 days the swelling should be resolved enough for you to stop benadryl (diphenhydramine).

Amoxicillin Rash: If after three days of stopping the amoxicillin and being on Benadryl (diphenhydramine), (diphenhydramine) your rash is not subsiding, I would not stop the Benadryl (diphenhydramine). However, I would recommend that you contact your physician because your Benadryl (diphenhydramine) many need to be changed to a short Prednisone taper if there has not been improvement on Benadryl (diphenhydramine) alone.
