Disk disease: The most common cause of this is a disk problem in the low back. The most important treatment for this is resting your back when it is flaired up and a long term home physical therapy program. There are many other less common causes. These include bone spurs, injuries, infections, tumors, syringomyelia, among others. The problem is usually treated and an MRI is done if it doesn't get better
