No: While normal blood pressure (BP) is defined as less than 120/80, hypertension (high BP) depends upon age regardless of gender. Readings greater than 140/90 are considered high enough to warrant medication in those younger than 60yo. Latest guidelines suggest that we hold off treating elderly (older than 60yo) unless BP greater than 150/90. Check BP at home then bring cuff in for calibration w/PCP.
