Careful with meds: While Ibuprofen and tylenol (acetaminophen) work great now and then, they can actually lead to recurrent headaches if taken daily. For migraines, 'triptans' are helpful prescriptions, as is a dark, quiet room. The best approach is to keep a journal and find what is causing them, and change behaviors. Get regular sleep. Avoid foods that cause them. Reduce caffeine and alcohol, and try to reduce your stress level.

See your doctor: Headaches can be tricky. I think a headache journal is an excellent idea. Most of the meds we think are good for headache are not good for headache, even the triptans, designed for migriane can excerbate migriane. The best thing to do is see a doctor who specalizes in headaches.
