Not necessarily : An itchy mole usually results from inflammation from irritation. However , if a mole stays inflammed for a few weeks , then it would be prudent to have a dermatologist evaluate the mole for biopsy or removal.

Itchy mole: A mole that was not itching initially but becomes itchy is of concern. Any change like increase in size, darkening of the color, ulceration or bleeding make a lesion suspicious for possible skin cancer.

What causes a mole to itch?

Different things: An itchy mole deserves a certain amount of vigilance. Sometimes the itch may not be the mole but the surrounding skin or a clogged pore within the mole. One must make certain that if it is indeed the mole that is itching that along with the itch there are not additional changes in the mole such as color, size shape or elevation. When in doubt consult a dermatologist.
