Follow up: My own MCV runs a bit low perhaps because i may carry a alpha-thal gene or two. If your daughter is borderline iron-deficient or has beta-thal minor (the two most likely possibilities), her pediatrician can tell you; both are worth knowing. I would draw no conclusion from a high monocyte absolute count or percentage. Thanks for asking.
