If you are pregnant: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctors office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period. If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection.

Which other reasons are there for getting a missed period?

Many reasons!: Besides pregnancy, common causes for isolated missed periods in women with previously normal periods include: include perimenopause, premature ovarian failure (if under 40), polycystic ovary syndrome, endocrine abnormalities, medication side effects, and prolonged high stress levels. If you miss more than a few, it's best to visit a gyn to figure out what's going on.
