Different things: Different conditions can cause elevation of platelets like inflammation, infection, iron deficiency, bleeding, etc. Go to see your doctor and have some work-up done.

Platelets: Platelets tend to be an acute phase reactant that can become very elevated during an acute infection or an acute flare of the lupus. When the inflammatory process is under better control, the platelets will return to a normal level. This is very common.
