Compare other side: The achilles tendon should feel like a continuous rope at the back of your ankle like it does on the uninjured side. If you feel a dip or "pothole" as you feel along the tendon, and it hurts, it may very well be ruptured. There is weakness and pain when trying to rise up on the balls of your feet - if you can do this at all. There is usually bruising with this injury.
