What is your health?: If liver is healthy now, and you are in good health now then yellow eyes after emergency GI surgery was transient/normal. During recovery the liver processes hematoma left over from bleeding. Yellow eyes, high blood bilirubin occur commonly as the liver works. It often takes time before you are ready to review and learn what happened to you during an emergency. Ok to ask your doc.
