Potentially: There are some type of hip fractures that can definitely cause avascular necrosis. The blood supply to the femoral head runs up through the neck of the femur. In a displaced femoral neck fracture, this blood supply can be disrupted potentially causing avascular necrosis. Thank you for the question.
