Loss of near focus: The root word is presby meaning old or aging. Like a camera the eye has a focusing element to adjust focus near or far. As we age we loose our ability to near focus.

Aging vision: This may be caused by thickening or hardening of the lens of the eye, so that the muscles cannot change its shape for near focus.
