Need more info: I assume this was detected via an ultrasound. The significance depends upon whether you are having symptoms or are assymptomatic. At the very least, you need to stop smoking, get a lipid profile and consider a statin medication, good blood pressure control is also important. This will need followup with your physician.

Time: To improve risk factors. No smoking. Eat right and exercise. Control blood pressure and blood glucose. Take Aspirin daily if ok with your doctor. Cta of head and neck may be needed to see extent of disease. You are at risk for heart disease and peripheral artery disease. Get checked. See heart.Org and stroke.Org.
