Several: If you are referring to yourself, menstrual cycles become irregular the closer to menopause you get. This is usually due to ovarian dysfunction, which also is the reason fertility declines significantly after age 40. However, irregular bleeding can also be from more serious causes including uterine cancer. Any abnormal bleeding after age 40 warrants evaluation. See a physician with these concerns.
