A member asked:

What is the best antibiotic for bacterial upper respiratory tract infections?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Upper respiratory tract infections usually involve the sinuses. There are a wide variety of antibiotics used for acute bacterial sinusitis. Bactrim (a sulfa drug), Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) (a penicillin type drug) and doxycyline (a tetracycline) are commonly used. Levaquin (a quinolone) can be used as well but i tend to reserve this for sicker patients.
