Several causes: Assuming there is no injury, most common cause of thumb pain is a trigger finger usually associated with a snapping sensation or loss of motion. Carpal tunnel, or arthritis can also cause thumb pain. Needs an evaluation by hand surgeon to properly diagnose and treat.
