Sort of: You can use ultrasound for various skeletal applications. Diagnosing arthritis is possible depending on certain factors, but xray is usually used and MRI is the best.

It may: Joint space narrowing may show up. If you include rheumatoid arthritis, synovial thickening and joint fluid would be seen.

Partially: With us of the knee, only the edges of the joint can be evaluated. The knee cap, or patella, can be screened for its articular cartilage thickness and then edges of the knee can be scanned for osteocytes, or bony overgrowth. Us is helpful to evaluate joint swelling or ligament injury around the knee. X-ray would be best for diagnosing and following the progression of osteoarthritis.
