The knee cap, or patella, can be screened for its articular cartilage thickness and then edges of the knee can be scanned for osteocytes, or bony overgrowth. Us is helpful to evaluate joint swelling or ligament injury around the knee. X-ray would be best for diagnosing and following the progression of osteoarthritis.
