Surrogate: It is possible that the egg and sperm from the parents can result in a fertilized egg in a dish (in vitro) and then returned not to the mother's uterus but to the uterus of an unrelated woman (called a surrogate) to carry the pregnancy.

Not how it works: A baby can not be born without an egg and a sperm. With ivf the egg is removed from the ovary. Then it is mixed with the sperm from the father. Fertilization then occurs. Then the fertilized egg is implanted back into the uterus. In some cases using an egg or sperm from a third party donor is needed but in any case 1 sperm and 1 egg are needed for fertilization.
