Exposure, not infect: A positive antibody result against hepatitis c with a high scr most likely represents a true prior exposure to hcv. However, even people with high antibody responses can spontaneously clear the hcv infection. So, everybody with a positive hcv antibody has to get an hcv RNA (viral load) checked to see if they have active infection. Only people with virus are infectious and may need treatment.
