See below: Chronic prostatitis is a bacterial infection of the prostate gland that causes recurrent lower urinary tract infections caused by the same bacteria. Patients often have no symptoms between episodes. Depending on the results of antibiotic sensitivity testing the preferred treatment is 4-6 weeks of a fluroquinolone antibiotic such as Cipro (ciprofloxacin) or levoquin.
